Description

The Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Department was founded in 1927. We are a full-time police department, located in Ashtabula County, Ohio and we operate 24 hours a day/ 7 days per week. Our regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. Officers needed outside of regular business hours when the police station is unattended, should call dispatch.

General Information

The Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Department full-time staff consists of a chief, one sergeant and three patrolman, one of which is assigned to code enforcement for nuisance violations such as trash in yards, uncut grass, peeling paint and dilapidated structures. The chief and the sergeant are K-9 handlers. The police department part-time staff consists of three patrolmen. The department is supported by approximately 18 auxiliary officers, most who donate their time with no compensation but are fully commissioned police officers. Some of these auxiliary officers are also part of our bicycle unit.
The police department serves the village base resident population of approximately 1,400 year round residents. The summer tourism is known to increase the population by the thousands filling the 2.0 square miles of Geneva-on-the-Lake.

 Golf Cart Use

In 2012, members of the community expressed a desire to operate golf carts on village streets. As a result, we adopted legislation regulating their use. This legislation includes a golf cart inspection program. The inspections are completed by the Chief of Police at a cost of $100 (see example). Additionally,  the inspections are only offered to village residents, whether seasonal or year round. For further information, please visit the golf cart ordinance link below or contact the Chief of Police at (440) 466-8197, during normal business hours.
